About me

I’ve received a number of queries asking me: “Who are you?”. Here is my response to that query:

Catholic Writer is:

- coordinator of and contributor to the OXYGEN daily scriptural reflection via email;

- a Catholic writer (by profession);

- a Catholic author (of Befriending Jesus);

- a young man in his late twenties planning to get married to a beautiful, lovely, wonderful young lady in her early twenties;

- a lay person who has been inspired by the message of Theology of the Body and wants to share what he has learnt from his reflections about what the Church teaches on human sexuality and marriage;

- someone who wants to give hope to other men suffering from addiction to pornography, that through the grace of God, it is possible to overcome this habitual sin.*

- owner of this “Catholic Writings” blog that used to attract about 10,000 visitors a month, but has dropped after he stopped writing about sex.

There’s more about who Catholic Writer is, but I think this is sufficient. I’ve chosen the generic pseudonym “Catholic Writer”, because it truly describes who I am in this phase of my life.

Thank you for reading my blog and may God bless you,
Catholic Writer

  4. Dear Catholic Writer,

    We came across your blog and were really impressed by the posts. We also noticed that you review Spiritual Books, and therefore we thought that you might be interested in reviewing our book for your readers.

    A leading transpersonal psychologist and a foremost mythologist, Rhoberta Shaler, PhD & G. Charles Andersen, MA, have published their ground-breaking, original book, ‘Soul Solitude – Taking Time For Our Souls To Catch Up’

    Soul Solitude offers the missing peace and pieces that make us a whole. The book is about what we need to examine, uncover and change to experience the power of living with Presence, Purpose, Possibility and Peace. Dr. Shaler and Charles Andersen offer an innovative, life-changing approach to exploring your purpose in a very new light and to effectively managing the challenges of living your life, spiritually-enriched and spiritually-inspired. They say<

    “Don’t be held hostage to the busy-ness of daily life any longer. Give up scripts that keep you from the life you long for.”

    To give you immediate access to the book, we have created a 40-page reviewer’s extract of the book in ebook format: You can access it now at http://www.SoulSolitude.com/reviewers

  5. Hi CW,

    are you a Singaporean catholic? i see that you have much wisdom in you about the faith.

    is it possible to add you as a friend, by email or MSN? i’ve provided my email n website and hope we can contact each other as friends.

    this is because i’ve a lack of friends who have similar ideals as me, for example, observing porn n masturbation as a destructive force in our lives and thus the need to avoid it.

    btw, i’m also hoping to have a church mate to attend mass with that I can share a joy with! (of course ideally a pretty girl… heh)

    thanks,
    Lenz

    • hi CW and lenz can we be friends? any contact details so we can share and learn from each others about our beautiful faith…

      thanks hope for your replies….

  6. Hi Catholic Writer,

    I just love reading your articles. It’s really nice that you explain lots of stuff about Catholicism

    I’ve read about your profile and I was wondering why you didn’t push through with priesthood. How did you know?

    Thanks,
    Jake

  7. Thanks Jake.

    It’s quite a long story, actually, but I’ll try to give a short version here.

    I first journeyed with the Franciscans, then with the diocesan priesthood. During the months in which I was discerning with my spiritual director, he helped me to realize that I did not have the charisms for a diocesan priest, and he directed me towards the Jesuits to help me to discern my true vocation.

    It was in their accompaniment that I learnt that vocation did not mean simply married life or religious life. That’s called the “state of life vocation”, but there are other kinds of vocation.

    Ultimately, the turning point in my journey was during a retreat when I realized that it was not God that wanted me to be a priest, but more of my personal ambition. I came to realize as well that I had never before considered married life as a possible state of life vocation.

    It just doesn’t occur to us during the discernment process to discern about married life. We spend much time preparing our seminarians and helping them to discern their call to the priesthood, but have you ever heard of anyone discerning their call to married life?

    That is why you sometimes come across priests and religious who leave their ministry to get married. It’s not that they are disobedient; it’s just that they never properly discerned their calling to married life before.

    Anyway, I’m thankful that this call to discern married life came to me before I joined the seminary, and it was about that time that I started to read about Theology of the Body, which helped me to understand what marriage is all about. Actually, it helped me to understand a lot more, but that’s a story for another time.

    I guess I could say that I turned my back on discerning a calling to priesthood because I was discerning a call to married life. I’m still discerning and will continue to do so until I make that lifelong commitment at the altar to spend my life with my wife.

    God bless,
    Catholic Writer
